TfTool - Linux
Hi Guys,
Was TfTool ever ported to linux? I'm thinking of moving from windows 10 to linux full time and TfTool is one of the
remaining two programs that I'm looking at for a work around. (The other is itunes but that's another story).
Does it run OK under WINE? I've tried the Rebuild NAV tap and although it works on Australian models it reports wrong
duration lengths. For example a 60 minute recording shows up as 18 minutes but it plays and functions fine.
Thanks,
James

Re: TfTool - Linux
Hi,
tftool should be not necessary under Linux if you are able to connect the HD directly to Linux because it should be able to read it. The Toppy uses a Linux file system.

Re: TfTool - Linux
Sorry, I should have clarified a little more. I'm using TfTool to generate the *.nav files for some converted media files.

Re: TfTool - Linux
ok,
then do you know the tool RecStrip? It strips unnessary data from stream and can regenerate NAV files. And it is native Linux, Windows and more.
I used this quite some time ago and it was working well. And the recordings get smaller.

Re: TfTool - Linux
Thanks you wtuppa@,
I haven't seen this item before. Unfortunately the Australian Topfield's do not use
the rec file format. They use mpg. I would still need TfTool to generate an mpg/nav/inf
to suit Australian models. I could probably make it work but it would be double handling everything.

Re: TfTool - Linux
maybe it is only a difference in extension. may you can check, if the tool recognizes your MPG file as input.
as far as I know, REC files just have a special header and the TS stream, but recstrip synced even without this header.

Re: TfTool - Linux
Unfortunately RecStrip did not work. I ran the program on a TS file and it generated the *.nav & *.inf file,
I then renamed all 3 files with the mpg extension and FTP'd them to my Topfield. The file played but the picture
was broken up with horizontal lines and square blocks across the bottom of the screen.
I also looked at rectool but it seems to only supports *.rec files as well.
I would be back to double handling i.e I could use these tools but would have to run the output *.rec files through
TfTool to generate a valid Australian *.mpg file.
It maybe a case of running windows on an old laptop on my network to handle the few things linux can't do.
Thanks for your suggestion

Re: TfTool - Linux
you could run a virtual machine with Windows under Linux, see VirtualBox.

Yes, that's another option I could look at
